Leaders of Color M Scholars Program

Merck KGaA Darmstadt, Germany is firmly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This commitment includes increasing the pipeline of ethnically-diverse professionals in STEM fields. 


The Leaders of Color's (LOC) M-Scholars Program was developed to provide financial support and career guidance to our employees’ children (or grandchildren) of color pursuing a bachelor’s, masters’, or PhD degree in an approved STEM field at an accredited institution of higher education in the US or Canada.


Students of color (Asian, Black, Hispanic/LatinX, Indigenous people, Pacific Islanders, or multiracial) who are children OR grandchildren of employees in the US/Canada may be eligible and are encouraged to apply!

Prospective M-Scholars should be pursuing a degree in an approved STEM field, such as biological sciences, medicine, chemistry, pharmacy, technology, computer science, engineering, or mathematics.

SCHOLARSHIP
  • 5 students of color will be selected as part of the LOC M-Scholars 2024/2025 cohort for the upcoming school year;
  • Eligible M-Scholars will be awarded $5,000 per year for a maximum of 4 years (up to $20,000 total) for the duration of the degree program;
  • M-Scholars will be required to maintain a 3.4/4.0 GPA and be enrolled FULL TIME at an accredited institution of higher education in the US or Canada and pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD in an approved STEM field to remain eligible
INTERNSHIP
  • M-Scholars, who are authorized to work in the US or Canada, as applicable, may be offered ONE paid  summer internship as part of EMD's official summer internship program in the country of residence (US/Canada) of the student  
MENTORSHIP
  • Each M-Scholar will be assigned a formal LOC mentor who may align with the M-Scholar’s career aspirations
  • A LOC mentor will provide on-going support and guidance for the M-Scholar through the course of study
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must be pursuing STEM related undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking studies (including basic and biological sciences, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, technology, computer science, engineering and mathematics)
  • Citizen or permanent resident of United States or Canada (pre-checked for this)
  • Applicant is a child or grandchild of a current employee of Millipore Sigma/ EMD Serono/ EMD Electronics in the US or Canada
  • GPA must be 3.4/4.0 or higher as shown on latest transcript
  • Must maintain a 3.4 or higher GPA through the course of study to remain eligible for M-Scholars
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada without current or future sponsorship (e.g. H1-B status)
  • Must be a person of color (Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Black, Indigenous, American Indian, Asian, or multiracial
  • Must be admitted into a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in the US or Canada
